Environmental Auditing: Federal Compliance Guide

Authors: the ERM Group

Following the success of this manual in its paper-based format we are now proud to offer this federal audit guide on CD-ROM. Whatever medium you choose this is a valuable tool for assessing facility compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The guide is divided into different modules:

  • Air Quality
  • Hazardous Materials
  • Wastewater
  • Special Pollutants (PCBs/Asbestos/lead)
  • Drinking Water
  • Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
  • Solid Waste
  • Pesticides/Herbicides/Fungicides
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Underground Tanks
  • Oil and Petroleum
  • Facility Management Systems
There are four parts to each module:

  • overview of the rules, regulations, and definitions
  • material to reviewed prior to onsite inspections
  • a Rulebook for each specific compliance topic, regulatory requirements given in the form of questions or statements followed by Guide Notes that explain regulatory details, and instructions for the auditor
  • a Scoresheet that repeats the rulebook questions, and allows for quick recording of responses. This is simply done by copying desired material to your own computer hard drive. Material may be customized and printed as desired.
Environmental State Differences

For auditors conducting inspections around the USA, the Environmental State Differences is the ideal companion for you, available on the same CD-ROM: you have the option to purchase individual summaries of each state's differences dealing with the same topics as those listed above.

Note that the State Difference summaries are provided in a commentary format and cover all 50 states. Their main purpose is to highlight key state regulations and to identify any state programs or requirements that differ from federal regulations or for which there is not a federal equivalent. This flexibility will enable the auditor to put together a tailor-made combination of federal and state-specific information.

Each one of the 50 states is divided into the following categories:

  • introduction, summarizing the regulations in plain English. Also identifies specific state citations, address, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of the regulatory authorities
  • Air Quality
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Solid Waste
  • Wastewater
  • Hazardous Materials
  • Underground Tanks
  • Oil and Petroleum
  • TSCA-regulated pollutants (asbestos, PCBs, lead paint)
  • Pesticides, Herbicides, and Fungicides
As with all our other CD-ROM titles, the STP AXIS CD-ROM is fully searchable. It is a Windows-based product and will work on any  Windows 95, 98 or Windows NT system using Adobe Reader.
